The festival has presented over 600 performers annually that included Main Stage and Children’s headline performers. A Heritage and Culture stage featured performances by various cultural groups and First Nations storytellers, drummers, dancers and displays.

MWF was incorporated as the Mississauga Waterfront Festival in 1998 and granted City of Mississauga affiliation status. The MWF is recognized as Mississauga's Signature Family and Friends event.
